Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful town in the world? If you did, it was probably Healdsburg. This historic Sonoma County town on the banks of the Russian River is one of California’s gems. Its picturesque town square is as if someone plucked Bedford Falls out of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and dropped it in the heart of wine country. Rimmed by world-class restaurants and boutique hotels tucked discreetly into carefully preserved historic buildings, Healdsburg is truly a one-of-a-kind experience; a small town for all seasons.

Historic Healdsburg will be home base for two couples, with lodging at the Les Mars Hotel, a Relais & Châteaux property. The couples will stay in Mansion King rooms, complete with canopy beds, marble baths and fireplaces. Les Mars Hotel represents a unique family project, a labor of love and a new dimension of sophisticated, luxury lodging in wine country. Upon entering the lobby, visitors are welcomed by the warm smiles of the staff, unique antiques and a comfort found only in the home of a good friend.

You may not want to venture out of your rooms – but you won’t want to miss a visit, via limousine, to Skipstone Ranch in the Mayacamas Mountains above the Alexander Valley. Skipstone Ranch is the latest project from famed cult-Cabernet winemaker Philippe Melka, in partnership with Winemaker Andrew Levi and Vineyard Manager Ulises Valdez. Begin with a private vineyard walk with Andrew Levi, followed by a tasting of limited production estate wines and then a lunch prepared by Estate Chef M. Tucker Hemquist, featuring produce from Skipstone's 1.5 acre culinary garden and estate-grown extra-virgin olive oil.

Each couple will also receive an estate products gift pack including two bottles of 2007 Makena's Vineyard Viognier and two bottles of 2005 Oliver's Blend – its inaugural release – and two bottles of 2009 Melina's Harvest Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. Also included are soaps made from estate-grown botanicals and honey from Skipstone’s own bees.

Following your afternoon at Skipstone, enjoy an evening at Richard Reddington’s REDD, in the heart of Napa Valley. Drawing from his classic French and Mediterranean sensibilities as well as his 15-year epicurean journey, Reddington offers a contemporary interpretation of Wine Country cuisine by incorporating a variety of ethnic influences in a showcase of regionally inspired seasonal selections. This will be one evening you will wish could last forever.

Once back at Les Mars, enjoy a few bottles from a case of 1990 Opus One, the landmark winery created as a partnership between two of the foremost families in the world of wine – Mondavi and Rothschild. A deep wine with the structure of an old world wine but the undeniable fruit of California, it is at its peak now and will provide many nights of drinking pleasure. One of which must feature this magnificent Double Magnum of O’Shaughnessy Estate Pinot Noir, one of only five bottles of this size produced by noted Pinot master Sean Capiaux.

Explore beyond Healdsburg’s town square and you’ll find incredible hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, redwoods, rowboats and hot air balloons for aerial views of it all. Be sure to look for George Bailey and Clarence!
