Burgundy is one of the world’s greatest wine regions, but also one of the most insular: tourists are seldom admitted into the top estates, and appointments are hard to come by.
Three couples will experience a unique insider’s view of the region, hosted by this year’s Honored Vintners, the Comte and Comtesse Liger-Belair. Louis-Michel and Constance Liger-Belair will reveal the inner workings of one of Burgundy’s oldest family-owned Domaines, welcoming you with warm hospitality and sharing their rarest vintages with you.
First, you’ll spend two nights at La Réserve Genève, owned by Michel Reybier, the proprietor of Château Cos d’Estournel, and located in a beautifully landscaped ten-acre park on the shores of the lake. Geneva is famous as an international center of banking and diplomacy—and of course, gastronomy. You’ll choose between dining at one of the hotel’s restaurants: the reimagined menu at Le Loti Restaurant & Bar by Chef Benjamin Brial, featuring everything from freshly prepared sushi to wood-fired lobster and Swiss beef, or Michelin-starred Le Tsé Fung, where veteran Chef Frank Xu has elevated Cantonese cooking to the level of haute cuisine.
A short jaunt to Burgundy will bring you to the Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, founded in 1815 when Louis Liger-Belair, a Napoleonic general, purchased the Château de Vosne-Romanée. Comte Louis-Michel and Comtesse Constance have breathed new life into this venerable estate, re-establishing it as one of the leading properties in the Côte d’Or. Your party will stay in Junior Suites at La Cuverie by Comte Liger-Belair, set amidst the vineyards of Vosne; the unique combination of guest rooms, a café, a wine bar and an organic grocery provides an immersion into the life of the region.
After a tour of the vineyards and a private tasting with owner Comte Louis-Michel, your party will relax in the family’s private dining room at the château. Dinner will be orchestrated by a Michelin-starred chef and accompanied by three vintages of La Romanée, the smallest Burgundy Grand Cru and a monopole of Liger-Belair, and of course other wines from the Estate. Fleshy and voluptuous, the wine’s depth, richness of fruit and silky tannins make it perfect for long-term aging.
Before you head to Paris, you’ll be treated to a hot air balloon ride over the Côte d’Or, where you’ll have a panoramic aerial view of some of the world’s most fabled vineyards.
In the capital, you’ll reside at the Paris location of La Réserve Paris, a private urban mansion designed by Jacques Garcia, a stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées that offers the essence of 19th century Parisian elegance. Flooded with natural light, antique curios and a private bar, your Suite will be filled with a sense of serene tranquility.
The high point of your culinary journey will be dinner at La Réserve’s restaurant Le Gabriel, honored with the ultimate accolade of Three Michelin Stars. Chef Jérôme Banctel, a technical virtuoso, creates dishes with subtle compositions, concentrated tastes and deep flavors. The meal will be accompanied by wines from Château Cos d’Estournel, the famed St. Estèphe estate ranked as a Second Growth in the Classification of 1855.
As amazing as this week has been, the exhilaration will continue long after you return home. You’ll receive a priceless vertical collection of Liger-Belair’s Premier Cru Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées from 2008 through 2013, in both Magnum and Three Liter format. Liger-Belair makes only one barrel of this wine each year, and it is not released to the public—it is reserved for family consumption and charity. These rare bottles will bring memories of Burgundy for years to come.
Dig deep and bid high for this exceptional lot: In addition to experiencing the pinnacle of French wine, cuisine, elegance and luxury, you’ll have the knowledge that you’ve helped our children achieve a better future.
