Two couples will spend three magical nights in Copenhagen, followed by a weeklong voyage through Scandinavia and the Baltics onboard one of the most luxurious vessels at sea: Ilma from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.
Your home base in Copenhagen will be the Five-star Hotel d’Angleterre, Copenhagen established in 1755. Located in the heart of the city near the Royal Theater, King’s Garden and Europe’s largest pedestrian shopping street, the hotel embodies a perfect balance between the stately Victorian architecture of the historic building and the graceful simplicity of contemporary Nordic design.
Your view of Danish culture will begin with a private tour of the National Museum of Denmark, where you’ll get an insider’s view of the society that has shaped the country. Venture outside the city to discover Frederiksborg Castle, former home of Denmark’s royal family, containing five centuries of Danish history through its rich collection of paintings, furniture and applied art. You’ll continue to the internationally known Louisiana Museum of Modern Art with 4,000-plus pieces of paintings and sculptures.
A four-hour, guided gastronomic tour, accompanied by drinks, will introduce you to the culinary delights of Copenhagen. A high point will be your dinner at Restaurant Palægade, which spices up modern Danish cuisine with inspiration from classic French cooking. You’ll enjoy a four-course meal with wine pairings in a relaxed and elegant setting.
It’s time to board the Ilma, the newest concept in luxury cruising from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. Ilma is a superyacht rather than a cruise ship, with a capacity of only 448 passengers and the highest ratio of space per guest at sea. The onboard lifestyle offers ample opportunities for enrichment and entertainment in spacious and stylish venues. With an interior of 560 square feet plus a private terrace of up to 199 square feet, your Grand Suite has all the comforts of home and then some, including a stylish dinner table for hosting your friends.
Gastronomy takes center stage on the Ilma, with five restaurants including Mistral (Mediterranean), Memori (authentic Japanese), Tides (seasonal cuisine) and the not-to-miss Beach House (Pan-Latin) by Chef Michael Mina. Chefs source only the finest produce, prime cuts of beef, fresh seafood and artisanal cheeses, drawing on the bounty of the ports visited.
Your first stop will be Karlskrona, Sweden’s most southern archipelago, chosen as the base for the country’s Royal Navy in 1680. On a bay in the Baltic Sea stands the majestic Polish city of Gdańsk, once a prominent member of the Hanseatic League; must-see sights include the opulent interior of the Gothic-Renaissance Town Hall, crowned by an elaborate clocktower which you can climb for panoramic city views, and the tower of nearby St. Mary’s Church, said to be the largest brick church in the world.
After a day at sea, you can explore the Old Town of Tallinn in Estonia, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. You’ll want to be on deck when sailing in and out of the Åland Islands, a Finnish archipelago of more than 6,500 islands with Mariehamn as its capital. The Bomarsund Fortress ruins and the Kastelholm Castle bear witness to the heyday of the Swedish Kingdom and the golden years of the Russian Empire.
Your final destination, Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm, is spread over 14 islands of an untouched archipelago and is called “The City That Floats on Water.” Stockholm has 70 museums, including the world’s oldest open-air museum, the Skansen and gives you access to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Viking outpost of Birka, the unique cemetery of Skogskyrkogården and Drottningholm Palace, which has been home to the royal family since 1662.
Memories of this exotic journey will resonate in your mind for years, and no bid is too high to make it your own.
