Two couples will be given an exhilarating look into the operation of one of Spain’s most exciting wineries, as well as sampling the delights of Madrid.
Your journey begins in the capital, where you’ll spend two nights at the Five-star Wellington Hotel & Spa. Your party will sleep in Suites located in The Wellington Club, a hotel-within-a-hotel located on the seventh floor. You’ll explore this fascinating city on a walking tour that will encompass historical sites such as Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, tapas bars, the shops of the Gran Via and cultural attractions such as the Prado and the Reina Sofía. You’ll also enjoy a delicious Spanish meal at El Barril de las Cortes.
From Madrid, you’ll travel to the Ribera del Duero wine region in the country’s northern plateau. Your home for three nights will be the Abadía Retuerta, a restored 12th century Romanesque abbey with luxurious bedrooms overlooking the vineyards. In addition to a wine bar and a traditional Castilian tavern, the hotel houses the restaurant Refectorio, holder of both a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star (awarded for sustainability).
Your party will be among the privileged few to explore Dominio de Pingus, a cult wine which has revolutionized Ribera del Duero. Originally from Denmark, vintner Peter Sisseck was managing Hacienda Monasterio when he came across a Tempranillo vineyard planted in 1929 in the subregion of La Horra. He knew immediately that this parcel was special, and he made his first vintage of 325 cases in 1995.
The superb concentration and exotic texture of Pingus electrified both critics and consumers from the beginning. The wine remains a rarity today, with less than 500 cases produced in a typical vintage.
Your party will have a tour and tasting at the Pingus winery hosted by Peter Sisseck himself, followed by a lunch paired with a range of the estate’s wines. This is an extremely unique opportunity for a winery that is not open to the public and very seldom accepts visitors.
You’ll enjoy an excursion to the charming city of Valladolid, home of the Castilian court in the early 17th century. Known for its Romanesque architecture, the Old Town is made up of a variety of historic houses, palaces, churches, plazas, avenues and parks, and includes the National Sculpture Museum.
The winning bidders will receive a Six Liter bottle of 2018 Pingus, rated a perfect 100 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Precise and pure, harmonious and elegant, the wine is barely available at retail in a normal 750ml format, much less in a bottle this size. Only six bottles have been produced.
If you’re a lover of red wine, bid high and often for this exceptional lot—and help ensure a healthy future for our children at the same time.
This lot is for two (2) couples. Visit to be scheduled for mutually agreeable dates and based on availability at time of booking. Blackout dates include all major holidays and September through November. Meals are only included as stated above and served with non-alcoholic beverages. The dinner at El Barril de las Cortes is à la carte. Alcoholic beverages, other than wine pairings during the Dominio de Pingus winery lunch, and all gratuities are not included.
