A retired air traffic controller from Wellington, Ohio, Donna Martin calls Naples home for eight months of the year. She felt inspired to get involved after reading an article about the Naples Children Foundation (NCF) and learning how it supports Collier County’s most vulnerable children through philanthropic fundraising at the Naples Winter Wine Festival (NWWF). She began volunteering in the Lot Room in 2012 and has proudly served there ever since.

Donna’s commitment extends well beyond the Festival weekend. Throughout the year, she supports NCF through pre- and post-Festival activities, as well as with office and phone greeting roles. Service has always been an important part of her life. As a member of the Naples Quilters Guild, she creates handmade quilts that are donated to children in Collier County through the Children’s Advocacy Center—also an NCF beneficiary. She also sews pillowcases for Ryan’s Case for Smiles, which are distributed to pediatric units across Southwest Florida—small comforts that bring warmth and reassurance to children during difficult times.

Some of her most cherished Festival memories take place under the tent during the Fund a Need lot each year. “The atmosphere is electrifying, and the generosity of Festival attendees is amazing!”

If Donna could choose any superpower, it would be kindness. She believes that when we help others or show care, it fosters a sense of purpose, belonging and connection. “By being kind, we not only improve our own mood but also inspire positivity in others, creating a contagious chain reaction.”

Although she does not play a musical instrument, she treasures time spent fishing with her husband and enjoys summers in Ohio with her children and grandchildren. Her bucket list may be short, but it includes a meaningful aspiration: visiting Vatican City.
